State Relay Report

STATE RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

What an amazing day!!!

Congratulations to the 24 teams that endured temperatures in the mid-30s to compete at the State Relay Championships at Lakeside Stadium on the weekend.

Some outstanding performances, which saw 11 (almost half) of our teams reach finals (i.e. Top 8) and 3 other teams narrowly miss out when finishing 9th (Under 9 Mixed 4x100m team desperately unlucky, as actually finished equal 8th but missed final on countback, as other team finished higher in their respective heat).

From those finalists, MLAC managed to take home 6 medals (2 gold, 2 silver & 2 bronze) and set 2 new State Records (pending confirmation).

Congratulations to the u13 Mixed 4x200m team of Ambali Pillai, Caitlin Pinto, Will Sharp & Adam Spencer, who further lowered the State Record that they set at Regional Relays.

Congratulations, also, to the u13 Boys 800m Medley Relay team of Nick Paizis, Nick Housakos, Will Sharp & Adam Spencer, who also set a new State Record, beating the previous record by almost 1.5 seconds and winning in a time of 1:47:16. For the unitiated, 800m Medley relay consists of 2x100m, 1x200m & 1x400m. To put that in perspective, that is an average of 13.4 seconds per 100m, which is a phenomenal effort. Well done boys.

Other notable mentions go to Sophie Jackson, Gadise Hughes-Smith & Emma Dowsing, who battled illness to ensure that their team did not miss out on competing. Extra special mention to Gadise, who showed real courage in bouncing off the track & completing the race, despite a nasty fall in the Mixed 4x100m.

All in all, I am extremely proud of the way that all of our athletes conducted themselves & I hope that all enjoyed the experience.

Basically, 16 teams in Top 10 & all 24 teams finishing in the Top 20 (in the whole State). AMAZING!!!!

Thanks again to the Spencer family, for all their assistance leading up to the event and on the day. Thanks also to the coaches of respective teams, who did such a great job of preparing the teams to compete “on the big stage”.

Finally, thank you to those parents who fulfilled duties at either Regional or State event. These events cannot run without input from all clubs, so well done.

Hope to see you all there tomorrow night, for our last competition for 2014. You never know, there may even be a special guest competitor for some of the events tomorrow night????

Cheers
